FFG Christmas Celebration at the Food Bank of Central & Eastern N.C.
On December 19th, we visited the Food Bank of Central & Eastern N.C. to volunteer our services for our annual Christmas Celebration. The Food Bank is a nonprofit organization that works to provide food for children and adults at risk of hunger by means of distributing donated food to soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters and special programs, to name a few.
While there, we packed boxes of food for the Commodities Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). This program provides food specifically for retired senior citizens. We were impressed by the organization and the enthusiasm of the employees and other volunteers. It was a well-oiled machine! During our two hour shift, we packed 861 boxes for a total of 86,602 lbs of food! This equates to 21,559 meals packed in 1.5hrs!
We enjoyed our time at the Food Bank of Central & Eastern N.C. and hope to do it again soon. For more information on how to donate or volunteer with the Food Bank visit http://www.foodbankcenc.org.
